'Wacky Woodpeckers'

Last Thursday we headed down to the Fountain Creek Nature Center for their 'Wacky Woodpeckers' kid's program. As usual, we had a fabulous time...

I think one of the highlights was the hammer head head-bands everyone got to make :). That and simulating a woodpecker with said head-bands!

The kids got to see what it was like to have various parts of a woodpecker: M has a helmet on, simulating the toughness of a woodpecker head, P has a looooooong tongue, and D has some crazy feet lol.

The kids had fun finding various woodpeckers as we went for our hike.

D inspecting the river for something that needs hammer-headed ;).

P too!

Goose-gazing!

P found a woodpecker too.

I wanted to get a good picture of the face of the Grandfather tree. Almost looks like M was comparing his hammer head to Grandfather's nose lol.

We spied two turtles waaaaaay across the pond.

And a few goslings out for a walk with mom and dad :).

Playing games with Ms. Nancy!

Woodpecker chase!

As we were leaving, we got lucky and saw some praying mantises hatching.

After leaving the nature center, we played and picnicked at a little park nearby. Before we left, the kids wanted to build a campfire :). Sounds like two kiddos I know are ready for some summer camping trips!

Random picture of a pretty purple bloom poking through.
