We have been pretty good about letting D learn how to eat finger foods on his own...he has been doing this for quite a while. Yes, the mess that ensues is usually ugly, but he has fun and we understand that he has to learn to feed himself. However, we haven't been very good about letting him learn to use the spoon on his own. The first few times I handed the controls to him, we had food EVERYWHERE.EVERYWHERE.EVERYWHERE. I wasn't ready. Shame on me...bad mom. Yesterday, I came to the realization that at almost 15 months, D really needs to learn to start spoon feeding himself, and I just need to suck it up and deal with the mess. So, this morning, we tried oatmeal. And, I don't know if he is just more ready now, or possibly he was extra hungry, but it worked out much better than I thought. Here is a little video of his progress:
Not every bite was this great, but he did much better directing the spoon at his mouth than he has in the past :).
Yes, I know I am good!

Wow! He's doing GREAT feeding himself! Your life is about to get SO MUCH easier. In a month or so, you'll be able to put him in his chair and let him feed himself while you cook, clean up, or even better - eat something yourself!
