Purge
We are about to commence the process of creating D's new big boy bedroom...aka decommission our office/guest bedroom. We are very excited to find a fun new theme for his room, but are a bit overwhelmed by the enormity of the project. In preparation, I seem to have gone into "purge mode" whereby if it hasn't been used in the past few years, it is history. I can't tell you how many bottles of yummy smelling body sprays I just purged that have been sitting in the bathroom cabinet for years untouched or barely used. They are nice in theory, but I just never seem to use them. I also just purged a bunch of D's stuff...you know, all those adorable little baby shoes that we didn't use, not even once. D didn't start wearing shoes until he started crawling around and pulling up on stuff...we just didn't see any reason to stuff his feet into shoes that didn't stay on anyhow. I am hopeful that by getting rid of much of this unused/unnecessary stuff now, the task of D's new bedroom will seem a bit easier when the day finally does arrive. While it would be wonderful to have a basement or even an attic with some storage space (or even a real garage), sometimes I think it might be better this way as it forces us to really evaluate our material belongings and determine what is needed and what is not. We did break down and rent a small storage unit, mostly for seasonal things like snowboards, biking gear, camping gear, and various holiday decorations. And where will our office and guest bedroom go you ask? Ha ha ha! The office will be re-created to some extent in our garage. Guests? Well, unfortunately for a little while they will have to park on our futon downstairs. Eventually, when the kids are old enough, we can have them camp or build a furniture fort or something fun, but watching our 16 month old sleep (not one corner of his crib goes untouched throughout the night) tells us that is quite a ways off :).
