Today I was joyously reminded of why we live where we live. D and I took a hike in the beautiful mountains outside Santa Fe with some friends; the trail took off from a Ski Santa Fe parking area. And what a glorious day!! The weather was absolutely perfect, sunny but cool, and the trail was full of spectacular Aspen and fir trees. There is nothing better than breathing the crisp, cool mountain air and listening to the river flowing by. This was D's first official hike, and he was such a trooper! He seemed to enjoy riding in his backpack, and had a ball with all the new sights and sounds. He even managed to get in a small snooze :). The total distance was 5 miles...and despite the fact that the time flew by as we enjoyed the amazing views, my shoulders are now telling me that was a long time with ~30 lbs resting on them (D + everything D needs). D and I are already plotting and planning our next hike...we'll probably try one here in ABQ since the AM temps are finally cooling down.
