The End of an Era

It seems like just yesterday that I was driving home in my brand new 1998 Jeep Wrangler; a car I had always wanted, and one I could finally afford with my SEINK (single engineer income no kids) status. It is amazing to me to realize though that this happened almost 10 years ago. With it's current 101k miles, the Jeep has seen a lot, and I put all but 300 of those miles it. Based on the paperwork I have, it originated in Dallas, TX and was driven to Angleton, TX where I purchased it in March 1998. The Jeep logged many beach and highway miles as I explored the "City of Entrapment" (Technically Enchantment, but if you visit Lake Jackson, TX and think anything about it is enchanted, I want to know what drugs you are on!! A shout out to my friend CF for this fun name that helped us survive our time there!) and H-Town. Then, following the trail of love, the Jeep helped me make my way to Cleveland, OH for a few years. There the Jeep logged a lot of highway miles: to and from Poland, OH (where G's family resides); Pittsburgh, PA (where I worked one summer); College Park, MD (where G worked one summer); and Midland, MI (where a good friend and her kiddos lived for a while). And then, once again following the trail of love (this time with marriage attached), the Jeep was moved to Albuquerque, NM. Here, it has primarily served as a work car, so the miles logged in NM are pretty boring. But what fun we had together...a blissful union of a CO gal and her 4x4 pal! For those who don't know, G and I both had Jeep Wranglers when we met (his=Browns, hers=Broncos):

And, with the arrival of D and subsequent need for a larger and safer car (the Silver Bullet...aka Ford Taurus):

one of the Jeeps needs to go as we refuse to be a three car, two driver family. Mine is the older of the two, so it is time to say farewell. Thankfully luck was with us and as of today, the Jeep is off logging miles with someone else :(. Hasta la vista Jeepie!

At least you know the jeep is serving a new master as faithfully as she served you! Your post brought back memories of a candy blue Ford Contour...ah the memories... :-)
