Magnet

We have decided that the Silver Bullet (aka our Ford Taurus) is a magnet for people who like to: open their car doors into it (where has common courtesy gone????...it is like people don't even try to be careful about doing that any longer); swipe a part of their car against the rear or front bumper; and/or back into some part of it because they are busy looking somewhere else.

We have only had this car for 11 months and already our doors look like they have acne from all the places people have opened their car doors into it.

In August, I went out to eat with D and my mother-in-law, and we were backed into by someone who was paying more attention to the restaurant than to where her SUV was headed. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The trouble? Try manipulating an infant, a diaper bag, and a massive car seat while trying to sign paperwork etc. in an attempt to get the car fixed. And then the fun of moving all these things from car to repair shop to shuttle to rental car and then all in reverse when the car is finally ready. Fun? I.THINK.NOT. Not fun when your significant other is around to assist...even less when not. So, after a month and a half of endless calls to insurance agents...because it is the responsibility of the car driver to take care of everything unless you want to wait a year to recover the money...I finally have the Taurus back from this first fender bender.

Now? Just this morning someone else decided the front bumper needed a new design and some different color paint. And so the fun begins again.

Now, why do we believe the Taurus is a magnet? I drove my Jeep for almost 10 years and never one time did I have trouble like this. Granted, the Taurus is bigger and lower to the ground then the Jeep, and doesn't have side step-ups that probably prevent 99% of door-dings, but still.

As a survivor of a horrendous car accident that took a life and almost took another, the main thing I care about is that NO.ONE.WAS.HURT in any of what I described above. I just needed a moment to vent about some minor bad luck with our new car :(...so thank you for listening. Now off to figure out what do to this time.

You're right about the good thing being no one was hurt! It's scary out there on the roads (and in parking lots) these days!
